Tim Wins Third Gallery Elite Award

At a gala reception in San Antonio, at the annual ImagingUSA International Convention, Kelly received a most prized trophy, The Kodak Gallery Elite. Tim has won this prestigious award three times, each with one of his handcrafted black and white portraits. This year a beautiful maternity portrait was selected to represent the "best of the best" for all of 2010's professional imagery.

Florida Professional Photographers Convention August 2010

Tim's work did very well again at our annual state competition. All of the entries merited and several "honored". Tim had the highest portrait case score, won Best of Show- Portrait. and the Kodak Gallery Award. (for the fourth year straight) and some additional honors.

Here is the big winner; a black and white fibre print with hand deckled edges in an acid-free "float" presentation, that I'd introduced some 15 years ago. As more and more photographers learned the techniques from my videos, I fell away from style. I decided on using the presentation because it was the "right" thing to do with this image.

January 2010 - Tim is Awarded Another Degree

At the recent International Event, Tim received the degree: Imaging Excellence, which is well above "Master Photographer" level. Of course, he has already earned the degree of "Fellow-American Society of Photographers" which is the highest of all earned degrees.

A New Series Begins

I'm working on a series of "Rider" Portraits. I've always loved the classic look of casual and show outfitting, and thought I could do a studio series. Back to the Painted Portrait

After a full year of concentration on large format black & white portraiture, it's time to put my hand back to portrait painting. I chose to take some time away and work on bringing my "first love" back to the forefront for a season. I'll still be doing an increased amount of Illustrative B&W, but bringing back the paintings. We were selling so many there for awhile, that painting was starting to feel like a job! Well, the demand is present, and I'm really enjoying it again.

I made this one for Governor Mike Huckabee, and I can make a new portrait from older sessions too. If there is an image you'd like to consider creating a painting from - let me know. What a great heirloom addition to your home!

January Feature Session 1

We had such a successful and fun shoot with this simple Mother/Daughter assignment. A short "dressy" series and a low-key casual series gave them so many choices. Proving that by setting aside just an hour, you can preserve wonderful ages and relationships forever. So many of our clients and collectors have been coming in since the children were babies.

It's so rewarding to help save the memories in beautiful professional portraits.

Studio Blueprint Session with Commentary

This image reminds me of the importance and success of our lighting style. What appears from the images to be extremely simple, can actually require quite a bit light management and subtle adjustments.

The image was the last frame of the session, and done as a "behind the scenes" view. I think that it says a whole lot.

After Dark - Austin 2009

I was pleased to be one of the Mentors at the first After Dark seminar held in Austin Texas in mid October. A really different event that features more "hands on" for the students than anywhere I have ever been.

I didn't shoot much, nor did I have a choice to as my models, backgrounds, or really anything, but I still came out with many decent images. Here is a sampling.

If you are a pro photographer wanting to enhance your creativity and technique, look for an After Dark event in the future. They are scheduled for several cities.

Even though I have experienced a lot of print judging, it was fun to be part of the process. Of course, I was an observer at this moment, not participating as a judge.

Tim took home some of the highest honors in portraiture again at the highly competitive Florida Professional Photographers convention.

The most coveted awards, for Tim, are the ones that he has once again earned. First Place - Portrait of a Man, Second Place - Portrait of a Man, First Place - Portrait of a Woman, Best of Show, and the Kodak Gallery Award.

The Kodak Gallery Award - Only one is given each year in the Portrait category. This is Tim's 22'nd Gallery. According to Kodak's description, "A Nobel Prize for photography would be redundant; this award is the benchmark for saluting technical execution and visual impact in the photographic arts."

Tim, though on vacation, and a guest at the wedding, shot a few portraits of Francesca prior to her wedding ceremony. Jose and his assistant did all of the heavy lifting.

The wedding was full of music industry guests, and the band wasn't bad either.

I'm sure the images are going to be fantastic! Congratulations Franny and Matt.
